Anyone ever been there? Best bets for snow and good skiing/riding? Any comments on ski resorts and accomodation appreciated.

Article in current Powder Magazine on Zakopane, Poland, probably largest area in Eastern Europe. Writers were dodging authorities to ski forbidden off-piste areas.

Slovenia is the eastern extension of Austrian Alps and reputedly quite good.
