About 3" of ripped-out edge sent my venerable Salomon Xscream Series to rock ski heaven. I clinched a deal in Quebec this past weekend on a pair of Salomon Scream Pilot Hots in a 175cm length.

Last night it was off to nearby Jiminy Peak (MA) for their maiden voyage. There was unfortunately only one condition last night on which to test the skis: bulletproof ice. Not porcelain, for that would be too kind a term. I'm talking rock-hard, see-your-own-reflection, refrozen slush from the daytime, ice.

Holy ****, these things rock! I have never in my life skied a more rock-solid ski on ice. I was able to scream carvers down the moderately steepish Whitetail that would've sent me careening into the woods on other skis. They grip like a cat, and are unfazed when chattering across rough ice at high speed.

Now keep in mind that I'm no figure skater, so I'm actually far more interested to see what they can do in powder and crud, as well as how acceptable they are in bumps. They ought to be good off-piste with those dimensions (110-75-100) but I'll have to wait and see...until after tonight's storm.
