Going to banff to board, Sunshine, Lake louise, and other surrounding areas March 9-17, Whats it like now? What should it be like then?
thanks

I will be at the ski journalist convention in Banff March 14-17, after CMH Kootenay March 10-12 and Kicking Horse March 13.

Banff area snowfall has been average this year, but more relevantly it has been average this January and February when most of the western U.S. has been much drier than normal. Current surface conditions are very good, and mid-March is statistically the best time to visit these areas. Why? Snowfall is low (154 inches YTD at Louise), max coverage is usually in March, and the cool temps preserve winter conditions. For more powder you can drive west to Kicking Horse (202 inches YTD snow) or south to Fernie (probably over 300 with a good dump late last week).
