Whiteface, NY 04/09/08

Whiteface doesn't get much love in the ski forum world, but it's a big-league hill with lots of interesting lines and all of its 3,160 lift-served feet are usable except at the very end. There are some nice glades, sweet bump fields, and so on, but mainly, it's about letting it rip at top speed. I really loved Upper Mackenzie and Empire (we ignored the unnecessary rope), while Harvey44 grooved on Blazer's Bluff.

Fantastic to finally ski with two of FTO's most hardcore ECers. After being refused entry to The Slides, Harvey44 had a few noteworthy spills and face plants. If you've never skied with Patrick... "Le Barbu" is, to put it mildly, a really strong skier. You don't mind eating his dust, because he's so much fun to watch:

Spring skiing doesn't get better than this, so I'm ready to say buh bye to my 2007-08 season:

Yes, after the first run at Bridger I was sort of embarrassed about the warning I had issued in e-mails (never having seen him ski) that he would need fat skis for a western trip.

At his level, he could be on a pair of 2x4s, and it wouldn't make a difference.

Maybe there's something to be said for skiing lots of days on Ottawa molehills...

That is my opinion also.

I think it was the University (equivalent of Division 1 US) racing.

Perhaps some of you can see where my expectations about Morgane come from.

Oh man, I would have a blast getting cut loose with you boys at bridger, hot damn.

You should have seen patrick skiing with lucy and his kids, ripping it down paradise at MRG. I've never seen such smidges ski so well. Start em' early up there in the hinterlands.

Here's a quick clip of Harvey44 dancing in the bumps on Empire.

Check out the pirouette he does at :06. His back is facing directly downhill! Just another advantage of being a teleskier, I guess.

Sorry about the last 17 seconds -- it should have ended up on the cutting room floor, but I have no idea how to edit a video.

Holy moly. Never really seen much video of myself skiing.

I’d like to be able to say that I usually do better, but really, for me, in a bumpy chute, that’s pretty good.

The russian split looks ridiculous – especially since, in the video you can’t see the freakin bedrock I skied around. I do believe that the boulder and trail closure may have been related.

I think that move should be called a harvey. That way nobody gets blamed.

Here's a quick one of Patrick making a final run from the summit on lower Cloudspin in mid-afternoon corn.

Sorry for the quality of these videos... they were shot with a still camera that I wasn't familiar with. I promise they won't suck next season.

Paron's Run, not Cloudspin. 8)

For the record on Harvey's run, it was his first run down Empire and I don't think we told him about the huge rock/boulder in the middle.

Thanks for the videos and pics James.

Looks good , have to give WF another try as could make it down there from just west of Montreal in 2 hours easy ( especially in the spring ) .
