Currently down at MRG to check out the reported 4 feet of new snow and the clipper ahead of the cold front. After driving thru snow and wind for 3 hours made it out on the mountain just before noon. Have to say ,very good conditions with packed powder and new snow. Skied all the regular blacks and the trees and was surprised not to find the scraped down bumps that are at times common. Skiing was quite easy with the soft new snow. The snow cover in the valleys and mountains appears to be above average compared to past years. Worth the trip ,if you thinking of going.

The Quebec Townships ski areas ,except for Bromont are a extension of the Appalachians but just don't have the elevation so have lower snowfalls than Northern Vermont. However, they are having a decent last 30 days after a bad start.

MRG Feb. 13 - Today, the thermometer was at 22 below F when we arrived at the hill with high winds hammering the place(wind chill was probably in the 40 below range during the gusting ).No surprise very little skiers. Growing up in the Quebec Laurentian hills ,this type of weather is typical and we knew exactly what to expect. Surviving the chairlift and being prepared for a breakdown was a priority as you never know. Once off the chair the skiing was above par as it snowed a inch or two overnight making for some windblown snow filled bump runs . The high winds kept pounding the mountain all day so the place to be was in the woods where skiing was primarily wind blown powder with wind scoured exposed areas. Clear skies and sun provided great visibility and views.
