Day 71: Snowing in late May.

We started at 9:30 a.m., and honestly the surfaces were heinous. The base was uneven and rock hard, topped by an inch or so of uber-slow new graupel. I was just happy to be skiing after traveling last week and dealing with excruciating low back pain earlier this week.

Fortunately, it didn't take long for conditions to improve and Bobby Danger, AmyZ, Telejon, BobMc and I all had a fantastic day. All of us except for AmyZ quit at 2 p.m., and BobMc, Telejon and I sipped BobMc's wine in a blizzard in the Creekside lot while AmyZ took a couple of final runs.

They've had to do some substantial snow farming at the base. Rumor has it that they may require downloading on Gadzoom for the Memorial Day Weekend.

But base depths are still 85" up high. (photo riding Gad 2)

It's nothing short of a crime that Snowbird closed Mineral Basin to spring skiing this year.

Heavy snowfall began around 1:30 p.m.

We were the only people to find our way out to lower Nirvana today.
