Busy times at Eldora.

Jr had his first race of the season at Eldora Jan 12th. World Pro Tour came to Eldora along with Ted Ligety on Jan 18th and just a regular ski day while Jr Trained with the race team on Jan 19th.

Eldora has really only been getting a couple inches at a time for the past month so surfaces are firm, but manageable lately. 3" or so Friday the 17th helped, though the entire mtn went on wind hold Sat morning. with beginner lifts able to open by ~10a and the upper mtn by ~12:30a as wind slowed.

The Pro tour delayed qualifying runs from Friday night (heavy snow rates and wind just at the time they were supposed to run) to Sat am, but then delayed the sat am qualifying by an hour as well to let the wind subside. Somehow they managed to get 3 pro jumps on Chute so not a ton of rhythm for the racers. Eldora had hosted 3 days of FIS U races for NCAA's and a decent chunk of the racers decided to stick around for one extra day and try their hand at the pro race. Even two of the female racers gave it a shot, though neither of them had fast enough qualifying times for the main event.

Due to time delays from the morning winds the pro tour races finished just after 4p. with Michael Ankeny the victor and $10K richer (well at least before taxes). I, and for part of the time, my son worked course crew so got up close view of the races.

The other days of this 'TR' were chilly, and had some flurries. I was able to be 'just a parent' for my sons race day on the 12th. He's skiing so much faster this year. And yesterday had unexpected overcast a flurries until noon-ish when it became bluebird.

And if James is looking for some more uncrowded skiing next weekend, Jr has a race over at Ski Cooper on the 26th :)

The current issue of SKI Magazine has an article about the Eldora Mountain Ski Club.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that. Quick, everyone run out and buy a copy of the latest Ski Mag for the 6 page spread starting on page 99. :-D
