A-basin Expansion plans

Postby EMSC » Mon Sep 10, 2012 1:12 pm

Admin already ran a short story on this expansion back in August http://www.firsttracksonline.com/2012/08/16/a-basin-schedules-open-house-to-discuss-master-development-plan/.

However it makes it a whole lot easier to understand by seeing a rough plan map of it. All of the expansion is actually within it's SUP boundary. Here's how it looks on a map. The steepest chutes would be gate accessed and 'hike out' terrain. I also wonder about the upper portions of the new bowl with the new lift access as the ridge lines up there are very wind scoured - and the new lift would be on the side of the mtn where the prevailing wind comes from. I also think it is a bad idea to not have the Lenawee lift listed for upgrade to an express lift. In theory it will provide access to not only the upper bowl and east wall, but also Zuma bowl/lift and the new bowl/lift. That is potentially a lot of people going through that one lift for a fixed triple...

Certainly true if they are removing Norway (as indicated on the map), which is presumably there to augment Lenawee on the busiest days.

With that design, I could see a lot of people getting stuck having to walk out of the Beavers, either uphill or to Hwy 6. People going back there these days generally know what they're doing and where they're going. With a lift back there, there is likely to be a lot more people who attempt to sample the now in-bounds terrain in the Beavers, and who will end up bit lost between Beavers and Pavi.
