News?

After the hack attempts Admin put out about 20 articles and now nothing for 4 months despite some very compelling stories.

I realize the cost is nada and its more a love of doing it vs economics for Admin. Its just been a bit surprising. Just lots of real job work and family items? Just let us know what's up.

I was under the impression that the News was the key driver of FTO's visitor traffic, and thus presumably its revenue. Thus I'm at least as surprised to see it dormant for the last 4 months.

While probable, I suspect the revenue of which you speak is less than working at Mcdonalds if you turned it into an hourly wage based on the hours Admin puts in. Just a guess on my part of course, but I suspect a little too close to the truth.

Even if the News generates the most revenue, no question it's also the most labor intensive part of FTO.

:dead horse:

Something is eating up Admin's time. Hopefully something good and not the other possibility... :-k

Admin moved (still within SLC) last weekend. Hopefully the News will revive within a couple of weeks, presumably to keep up with the Park City brouhaha.

I have certainly written the "I Quit" post in my head dozens of times. Publishing consistently is a relentless responsibility.

Whatever is up Admin has been an incredible source of content/news over the last.... how long has it been?

Too much saki during the hacker attacks gave Admin too much of a taste of the good life. We should start an over under pool for when the first new article will appear.

Harvey: 20 years now, believe it or not. Everyone else: check back on October 1! Your fix is near.

What's ironic about this "where's the news?" controversy is how many times over the years someone will include a news link from a non-FTO source and a frustrated Admin will remind everyone that he posted about it days or weeks earlier.

Full disclosure: I've been busted for that offense too.

An update for those concerned:

I had hoped by this hour to have news published, but I'm now dealing with a Wordpress database corruption issue. My web host is working to try to resolve, but their oldest copy is from September and my newest copy is from November 2013. Stay tuned, I'm hoping to get this sorted out quickly and get some new stories up. In the longer term, however, this may require hiring a database specialist to sort out the corruption. If anyone knows a decent mySQL specialist who comes cheap, point me their way!

The headaches from the hackers last spring just won't end...

Now a week into October, software problem must be pretty tough. It's still full-on summer (100 degrees over the weekend) here in SoCal, but I know in other regions in North America people start to think about skiing at this time of year.

I'm not holding my breath waiting for this fall's feature articles to get published any time soon.

The cerveza is just too good. Admin is having trouble seeing the keyboard... :troll:

I'll check out the San Fran weather next week. Hopefully still decently warm without anything over about 80F, please (I can order it up on this site right?).

Admin still hasn't asked for pics for the feature I sent in May yet, so I wouldn't bet on those running for quite a while.

Admin shouldn't have to ask you to send photos along with the copy. For ignoring SOP, you've been moved to the end of the line, behind my feature.

Pictures are not a strong point of the features. He'll use 2 or 3 of the 50+ I published in my TR's from Zermatt.

And... I've got at least a dozen or even double that that would help the story, but not sure how many days/pages it'll run so I asked for how many to send in (vs chewing up my and his bandwidth). But then I'm my own worst editor with pics as I am very visual and he could probably find a way to highlight the story with half of my desired pics. For this year's I never posted a TR on it so it'll be all new content.

I just noticed. Nice summary of the major ski developments over the summer.

Hopefully our new features will be published before too long.
