Interesting story on "snow farming" in the Alps

Interesting story on what some resorts in the Alps are doing to preserve snow from one season to the next. I wonder if US resorts might follow suit at some point in the future?

My own local ski hill in southern NE does a somewhat modified version of this. When they have cold weather in the winter, they blow huge mounds of manmade snow on various places on the "mountain" and then in March when the snow begins to melt away, they move the snow from those large piles to the thin areas on the trails.
