I-70 Colorado Avalanches - 3-3-19

Postby EMSC » Mon Mar 04, 2019 11:50 am

I assume many might see this on the news, but figured I'd post a couple links for easy video finding.

At least two. Based on a description by one person possibly 3 (1 earlier in the day then 2 in quick succession). All in the 10 Mile Canyon between Frisco and Copper Mtn.

Very heavy snowfall the past couple of days in Colo.

Not a huge amount of snow made it across the creek, but enough to bury up to the wheel wheels on cars for the second one. Obviously I70 was shut down for a while (~1-2 hrs I think). There were other I70 closures as well over the course of the day.

I70 even ignoring the avalanches, was a total disaster on Sunday March 3 with traffic hardly even moving up to the tunnel from Silverthorne at 10pm...
