How can a powder day be a disappointment?

I'd shoveled a good foot of light, dry fluff out of the driveway, and thus expected a stellar day. What I got instead was some seriously worked wind crust atop a foot of blower such that you were actually skiing the ice bumps underneath. :? First run was a drop in off the High T into Watson Line, where after a mere 5 or 6 turns I got thrown forward by the crust and uneven subsurface and spent the next 5 minutes swimming back uphill to retrieve a ski. I never thought that I'd be so happy to get back onto a groomer on a powder day.

For the second run, we tried the Backside to see if the situation was any more wind-sheltered over there. Nope. Two runs, and I was off to work for the day.

OK, I'm a bit spoiled.
