what a satisfying day of skiing. it wasn't satisfying like the epic stories of "utah light as it gets powder" that people skiing earlier this week were mentioning. but it was about as satisfying as could be had given i was skiing two days after the dump.
let's get right to it, shall we? tramline is officially open! i have a healthy respect for tramline and 2.5 years ago when they first put it on the map, i didn't think i was quite ready yet. apparently i don't give myself enough credit because it really isn't that tough. negotiating tower 1 is pretty technical though, especially the rocks right below it which require mandatory air of at least a 4 feet jump sandwiched between some mean looking boulders. additionally, a few sections that require tight turns with a turning are of 5-6 feet available. quite a few people slip sliding some of the non-technical but slightly difficult rocky sections though :!: :!: :!: apparently the skull & xbones at the top of the run didn't send the right message, lol. the gladed section at the beginning of the run is one of the finest tree shots i've ever skied and is without a doubt the best part of the run. powder was the rule on the upper and lower 25% with some great jumps. decided to do two in a row snagging old tramline on try two. which was deliciously tight! man, that's gotta be some ride to score that first on a powder day. snapped one of my ski poles in half going in and out of the trees, but thankfully i had a backup pair! at least the pole broke and not my arm
glades were the place to be as much of the mountain had been wind scoured. the nice bumps from last week on vista were scraped and firm. heck, most of the upper mountain was scraped and firm with the wind howeling and the temp hovering at a balmy -10F in the AM. lakeview glade (i like the name sprocket better, maybe i'll stick with that one for the NBS) is an awesome run i ski for the first time today. lots of stumps and rocks in there still, but a large amount of powder. i took two. i didn't opt for kinsman glade, the exits looked pretty beat down already and after my last entry into there last week, i really wanted to see better coverage and base to make it worth the effort.
over the saddle, the main routes were predictably packed down with occasional pow to be found. CL was incredible with oodles of pow pow. glades were pow pow pow! probably will still be a decent amount that will servive friday for saturday skiers that know where to look.
front face looked awesome with soft bumpers everywhere, nice! i only did avi skier's right which was a hoot for a last run when everything was burning. never got to the hards. groomers seemed in great shape considering the wind was howling.
just an incredible and very satisfying afternoon. with exception of forgetting to whip out my "zoomer card" until just when the ticket was printing which meant it didn't count  my bad, i guess. pics to follow shortly!
