Mammoth Mountain, CA -
The Mono County, Calif. Sheriff's Department is reporting that a 27-year-old snowboarder has died following an accident Friday at Mammoth Mountain ski area.
Bend, OR - With 324 inches of snowfall thus far this season, Oregon's Mount Bachelor has outlined its plans to provide skiing and snowboarding through May 16.
Park City, UT - Park City Mountain Resort announced on Tuesday that the Utah ski and snowboard resort has partnered with VacationRoost to outsource the operation of Park City Mountain Central Reservations.
Richmond, CA - Mountain Hardwear's men's Refugium and women's Radiance jackets, models that contain a heating element that also powers portable electronic devices, is about to be voluntarily recalled by the company in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and its Canadian counterpart, First Tracks!! Online Media has learned.
Whistler (BC), Canada - In heavy rain and bitter cold in Whistler, Alana Nichols, of Farmington, N.M., and Park City, Utah's Stephani Victor won gold and silver, respectively, in the sitting division of Tuesday's Paralympic giant slalom ski race race. With the gold medal, Nichols becomes the first female U.S. Paralympian to claim gold in both summer and winter Games. It was Victor's second silver of the 2010 Games.
West Vancouver (BC), Canada - Halfpipe rider Palmer Taylor, of Collingwood, Ontario, and Snowboardcross rider Kevin Hill, of Vernon, British Columbia, have been selected as the 2010 recipients of the Neil Daffern Award, given to two outstanding, up-and-coming elite Canadian riders who have demonstrated an exemplary level of performance or commitment to the sport.
Denver, CO - As the 2009-10 ski and snowboard season moves into its final two months, the most recent report released Monday by the Mountain Travel Research Program (MTRiP) revealed that as of Feb. 28, 2010, lodging occupancy surpassed last year's mark, although just barely -- 0.03 percent ahead of last season.
South Burlington, VT - Burton Snowboards announced today that the company is closing its South Burlington manufacturing facility and moving all snowboard production to an Austrian plant by sometime in June.
Whistler (BC), Canada - One of the most decorated U.S. Adaptive Ski Team athletes of all time, Chris Waddell, was honored Sunday with induction into the Visa Paralympic Hall of Fame. The ceremony was held in Whistler in conjunction with the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.
