Boulder, CO - Skiing lost one of its icons on Monday when Olympic medalist Jimmie Heuga, a star of the 1964 Olympic Winter Games, one of the U.S. Ski Team's greatest ski racers and a tireless advocate for patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), died at Boulder Community Hospital in Colorado after a 40-year battle with the disease. His death came on the eve of the Olympics in Vancouver and 46 years to the day after his medal. Heuga, who was bronze behind Billy Kidd's silver in the 1964 Olympic slalom, was 66.

Calgary, Canada - Sunshine on Saturday at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary saw the first format of the 5Star Burton Canadian Open Snowboard Championships take place. After a week of qualifying rounds, the halfpipe format ended Saturday with an electrifying final that saw New Zealand's Kendall Brown and Iouri Podladtchikov of Switzerland take home the titles and 850 TTR ranking points.

Telluride, CO - A new wave of big mountain skiers entered into the realm of giants on Saturday, as the top four women and top six men from the Subaru Freeskiing World Tour stop at Colorado's Telluride Ski Resort are now pre-qualified for the remainder of the 2010 Subaru Freeskiing World Tour. They now have the opportunity to get their skills noticed, gain Tour points and, hopefully, wrangle some sponsors.

Steamboat Springs, CO - Nearly 6,000 Olympic fans were on hand in Steamboat Springs Friday evening to send off the U.S. Olympic Team from "Ski Town U.S.A." Around 30 Olympians were on hand, including the entire U.S. Olympic Moguls Team, which trained last week in Steamboat, and the Olympic Nordic Combined Team, which flew in just for the occasion from its camp in Utah.

West Dover, VT - Sun Valley, Idaho native Kaitlyn Farrington claimed the first Winter Dew Tour victory of her career at the women's snowboard superpipe final at the Toyota Championship held Saturday night at Vermont's Mount Snow Resort in West Dover, while 28-year-old JJ Thomas pulled down the top score in the men's competition to claim his first win on the three-stop circuit as well.

Canmore (AB), Canada - Torin Koos, of Leavenworth, Wash., led six of his U.S. cross country teammates into sprint finals Saturday in Canmore, qualifying second and finishing 11th during the season's final World Cup skiing competition prior to the 2010 Olympics. World Championship silver medalist Kikkan Randall, of Anchorage, Alaska, finished 10th.

West Dover, VT - Simon Dumont, 23, won the freeski superpipe final for the first time during the Winter Dew Tour's 2009-10 season on Saturday at Vermont's Mount Snow Resort. Despite taking fifth place at Saturday's final, New Zealand's Jossi Wells' overall point total was enough to make him the overall Dew Cup champion in freeski superpipe.

Midway, UT - The five members of the U.S. Olympic Nordic Combined Ski Team were on hand Thursday to help break ground on a new project at Soldier Hollow, site of the 2002 Olympic Winter games. The Soldier Hollow Charter School and Soldier Hollow Legacy Foundation have partnered together to design three new multi-purpose buildings for the Olympic venue in Utah.

West Dover, VT - Bobby Brown of Breckenridge, Colo. won the freeski slopestyle final at the Winter Dew Tour's Toyota Championship on Friday, while second-place finisher, Andreas Hatveit, was crowned the overall Dew Cup champion for the 2009-10 season. In women's snowboard slopestyle, Jamie Anderson of South Lake Tahoe, Calif. was named the Dew Cup champion and Female Athlete of the Year after winning Friday's final at Mount Snow Resort in southern Vermont. Norway's Torstein Horgmo won the men's snowboard slopestyle final, while 16-year-old Sage Kostenburg – who placed second on Friday – was named the overall Dew Cup champion, making him the youngest Dew Cup winner in Winter Dew Tour history.
