Local heroes will try to bring home the first-ever podium spot in Sweden’s capital. In addition to Chris Soerman, Kevin Baeckstroem and Jonas Carlson, to name just a few of the Swedish rider front, Jonathan Nilsson will take another shot to make it into the top three as he was the best “Tre Kronor” representative last year, finishing fifth.
But they will face a difficult task, as once again an outstanding international field will make its way to Scandinavia. Former Stockholm winners Matevz Petek (SLO, 2006) and Janne Korpi (FIN, 2007) will aspire to the 2008 title, along with the young Finn’s fellow countrymen Antti Autti, Risto Mattila, Peetu Piiroinen and Sami Saarenpaa, who are ready to repeat last winter’s total podium sweep.
Austrian ace Stefan Gimpl will be looking to redeem himself after following Peetu Piiroinen onto the podium of the first event of the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup Big Air series, staged a month ago in London. Swiss rider Benedikt Nadig completed the podium in London, although his teammate Stephan Maurer is more than capable of landing amongst the top three as well. The same is true of Domen Bizjak (SLO) and the entire Norwegian squad, including Tore Holvik, Roger Kleivdal, Kim-Andre Eliasen, Gjermund Braaten and Ulrik Badertscher.
