Popular Snowboard Series Returns to Coronet Peak and The Remarkables
Queenstown, New Zealand (Monday, July 8, 2002) - Next Monday, July 15th sees the return of two popular snowboard competition series, the Quest Halfpipe Series at Coronet Peak and the Cadbury Moro Slopestyle Series at The Remarkables. The highly acclaimed XL Terrain Park at The Remarkables plays host to the Cadbury Moro Slopestyle Series that runs fortnightly from July 15th to September 23rd. Boarders will compete over a variety of features, such as rail slides and tabletops, in the terrain park. A team of judges will mark them on their fluidity and control, technical difficulty of the tricks they pull and overall impression.
"Last year it was a huge success with a full field of 80 riders each week," said Nick Frankel, terrain park team leader. "The Remarkables pioneered the slopestyle with the first competition in New Zealand three years ago. Since then it's become the latest and greatest event around with everyone wanting to be involved."
The event kicks off at 11:00 a.m. each Monday. Award ceremonies take place at the Tardis in Cow Lane where competitors can watch the day's action on video and winners take home up to NZD $400.
Following its massive popularity in 2001, the four-week Quest Halfpipe Series is back for a second year in Coronet Peak's No 1 Halfpipe.
"The series is a great way of showcasing local talent," said Jared Dowson, Coronet Peak's terrain park co-ordinator. "The informal jam format, good tunes and barbeque makes it a fun day out, as well as having the opportunity to win some great prizes."
The series starts on next Tuesday, July 16th at 10:00 a.m. with prizes supplied by Quest. As well as daily winners, the results will be accumulated over the four weeks to find the overall male and female winners.
