Kodak Wet and Wild Wednesday and Soaring Saturday Again This Week in Lake Placid
Lake Placid, NY (Tuesday, July 9, 2002) - Looking for some ski action in the middle of summer? The Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) continues its summer freestyle and Nordic jumping series in Lake Placid, New York tomorrow, July 10, with Kodak Wet and Wild Wednesday and July 13, with Kodak Soaring Saturday, respectively.
Kodak Wet and Wild Wednesday takes off at 1 p.m. at the MacKenzie-Intervale Ski Jumping Complex. This week’s featured athlete is Steve Omischl, a member of the Canadian National Freestyle team. Omischl finished 11th at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City and is training in Lake Placid for the summer.
Mr. Mike’s Pizza, which is located at 332 Main St. in the village of Lake Placid, is sponsoring this week’s Kodak Wet and Wild Wednesday and Kodak Soaring Saturday.
Wednesday’s activities begin at 10 a.m. with free tours of the MacKenzie-Intervale Ski Jumping Complex. Tours will continue throughout the day every hour on the hour until 3 p.m. Beginner trampoline clinics are slated for 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and are open to anyone over 10 years old. The beginner freestyle Tramps and Ramps Package –- where intermediate skiers can learn the basics of aerial skiing and ski off the skimmer water ramp -- starts at 1:45 p.m.
Kodak Soaring Saturday is slated for this Saturday, July 13. Two members of the U.S. Nordic Combined Development team, Morgan Goodwin, of Keene, N.Y., and Matt Cook, of Saranac Lake, N.Y., will be this week’s athletes of the week. Goodwin and Cook learned how to ski jump and cross-country ski in Lake Placid. They both currently live and train in Park City, Utah, but have returned home for the beginning of July. Soaring Saturday takes off at 1 p.m., with jumpers vying to become “king of the hill” for a day and win cash prizes.
There will be giveaways at both events including t-shirts, a bobsled ride, a gondola ride, entrance to the Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway, and a case of Coca-Cola.
Admission to the MacKenzie-Intervale Ski Jumping Complex is $8 for adults and $5 for juniors and seniors. This venue fee includes chairlift ride up the landing hill, elevator ride to the top of the 120-meter jumping tower and access to the Kodak Sports Park. There is no additional fee for Kodak Wet and Wild Wednesday or Kodak Soaring Saturday.
