Jack Frost and Big Boulder Invest Millions
Blakeslee, PA (Wednesday, July 17, 2002) - Jack Frost and Big Boulder have tripled their annual investment in new and improved winter amenities, in order to assure visitors that the 2002-03 season is the best ever, Patrick Flynn, the resorts' president announced today. More than $3.8 million, up more than 300% from the $1.2 million in last year's capital budget is being spent to improve the visitor's experience. And behind the scenes, new and re-engineered snowmaking capability and other technical developments will take place. "When the season opens, Jack Frost and Big Boulder will offer the most extensive equipment rental inventory in the Pocono region, plus two new chairlifts that will bring an additional 1,200 people an hour onto the mountain, two new `SkiCarpets', improved snowmaking, and countless other new and improved amenities," Flynn said.
This season, Jack Frost and Big Boulder will offer nearly 1,400 snowboards including 435 new boards, and approximately 4,200 pairs of the new style "shaped" skis including 900 new pairs. In addition, 200 pairs of new Snow Blades will be available plus the existing 285. Finally, Jack Frost and Big Boulder will add 250 new family and single rider tubes. Both areas have added many soft foam fantasy figures such as dinosaurs, to their grounds transforming them into extended playgrounds for younger visitors. A new 100 foot "SkiCarpet" at Jack Frost and a new 300-foot "SkiCarpet" at Big Boulder will make it easier for younger skiers to move up the mountains and position themselves for their having fun on the way down.
A new surface lift to Jack Frost's Half Pipe will assure riders more time on their boards and in the air. In addition, because of popular demand, Jack Frost will bring back its two family snow tube chutes. Jack Frost already offers 7 single tube chutes. Family tubing may be the fastest growing winter sports activity at Big Boulder and Jack Frost, and because of this dramatic increase, Big Boulder will open three new chutes this winter. When visitors return, they'll find a total of five family and seven single tubing chutes at Big Boulder.
