Top Halfpipe Action at Coronet Peak
Queenstown, New Zealand (Friday, July 19, 2002) - New Zealand's top skiers and boarders were back in action today at Coronet Peak for the Ansell Halfpipe Expression Session as part of the Lindauer Queenstown Winter Festival.
Both skiers and snowboarders competed in the informal jam session supported by a good crowd of spectators who braved cold but superb conditions to watch their favorite riders. Queenstown snowboarder Aaron Jamieson took the men's snowboard title with his signature huge air and well-executed moves. In second was Roland Morely-Brown, also of Queenstown who was stoked with the competition.
Deb O'Hagan led the field in the women's snowboarding with fellow Queenstowner Holly Thorpe close behind her.
A strong ski field brought some spectacular action with 12-year-old Jose Wells of Wanaka stunning the crowd and judges with his sick riding. Although one of the youngest competing he won second place behind Brad Prosser, also of Wanaka. Amy Sheehan and Sarah Gatesby, also both of Wanaka, got first and second respectively in the women's skiing.
