New Superpipe at Waterville Valley Opens With a Bang

Waterville Valley, NH (Friday, January 17, 2003) - It's 400-ft. long with true 17 ft. transitions. It's the new Superpipe at Waterville Valley.

Danny Garrity who rides with the US Snowboard Team had the good fortune to ride the superpipe earlier this week. "This is the best it's ever been at Waterville right now," said Garrity. "They've got the right slope for the pipe, and park has a total rhythm to it. It feels like I'm out at Mammoth."

With a park and pipe that are lift-accessed, riders and skiers have the best of both worlds. Park and pipe designer Chris Gunnarson sent out Snow Park Technologies' and X-Games and Vans Triple Crown of Snowboarding pipe designer and groomer Frank Wells. Wells worked with Waterville Valley's Mike Betterra and Steve Ash for over a week to make sure all was well in the world before opening the superpipe to the public.

"Frank is THE MAN," said Betterra. "It's really impressive to sit in a cat with him while he's cutting the pipe. I'm extremely lucky to have worked with him, but more importantly our riders are the ones that win big time."
