Goetschl Nails Cortina SG-2

Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy (Friday, January 17, 2003) - Renate Goetschl of Austria won her first race of the season Friday, capturing the second of two super Gs at Cortina while Jonna Mendes (Heavenly, CA) was eighth and Caroline Lalive (Steamboat Springs, CO) 10th in leading four Americans into the top 20. Goetschl was timed in an unofficial 1:16.95 with teammate Alexandra Meissnitzer runnerup in 1:17.21 and Canada's Melanie Turgeon third (1:17.23).

Outdoor Life Network will broadcast World Cup highlights from a busy week Saturday at 3 p.m. EST.

Turgeon, 26, of Quebec City, has now won eight World Cup medals with her last podium coming in Are, Sweden where she placed second on March 9, 2001. She also placed second in Cortina on January 20, 2001.
