Top Snowboarders at Mt. Bachelor February 5-9 for Grand Prix
Bend, OR (Friday, January 17, 2003) - For the second straight year, the top snowboarders in the country will be competing at Mt. Bachelor in the Chevy Truck U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix February 5-9, 2003.
The premier snowboard series in North America, last season the Mt. Bachelor stop on the Chevy Truck circuit was an Olympic Qualifying event. In 2003 this competition will be a huge draw for the athletes due to the $10,000 in cash prizes for first place finalists, and television coverage on NBC and ESPN. The USSA sanctioned event features Parallel Giant Slalom and Superpipe competitions, plus fan favorite Yahoo! Big Air & Style exhibition on a specially designed hit.
“Expect some big name riders,” said Mt. Bachelor spokesman Chris Johnston. “At our Grand Prix last year the four eventual Olympic Halfpipe medal winners, Kelly Clark, Ross Powers, Danny Kass and J.J. Thomas, all competed.
“We also hope to see local favorites such as Leslee Olson and ’02 Olympic GS medal winner Chris Klug,” Johnston added.
