Adults and Kids Free-Heel It at Beaver Creek This Weekend

Beaver Creek, CO (Thursday, January 23, 2003) - A free-heeling weekend is planned for Saturday and Sunday at Beaver Creek, featuring coed adult and children's workshops for Telemark enthusiasts of all ages. Beaver Creek Ski School and the Beaver Creek Nordic Center are offering a Telemark Workshop for men and women Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 followed by a special Kids'Telemark Workshop on Sunday, Jan. 26.

Part of the Vail/Beaver Creek Telemark Workshop Series, this weekend's workshops provide fun and encouraging learning environments for men, women and kids. Both clinics are taught by experienced Beaver Creek Ski School instructors, while Sunday's kids'-only workshop features lead instruction from "Tele Ned," a PSIA-accredited kids' instructor who specializes in teaching children and teens the Telemark discipline.

"Telemark skiing has really been catching on locally," said Pat Hammon, Beaver Creek Nordic Center supervisor. "With the resurgence we're especially excited about getting kids involved in the sport. Kids can learn or practice a new skill with their peers in a fun and relaxed setting thanks to these special kids'-only workshops."

The adult Telemark Workshop welcomes men and women of all abilities-from experts to "never-evers"- ages 17 and up. The kids' clinic is open to children and teens of all abilities ages 6-16 and class size is limited to 24 participants. Rates for each workshop are $62 for participants with lift tickets or passes, and $99 for those in need of lift tickets. For the kids'-only clinic, cost includes kid-specific rental equipment including the Garmont Teledactyl and Tua Megabites. Participants in the adult clinic can rent equipment at a discounted rate of $26 (normally $34) from top manufactures including boots from Garmont and Scarpa and skis from Black Diamond, Tua, K2 and Fischer.

Both Saturday's adult workshop and Sunday's kids' workshop run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. For children under 10 a half-day clinic may be arranged. Participants should meet at the Beaver Creek Nordic Center at 8:30 a.m. on the morning of the workshop. Adults and kids who need to rent
equipment for the day are encouraged to arrive between 8-8:15 a.m. to allow time for proper fitting.
