Family Fest at Big Mountain

Whitefish, MT (Thursday, January 23, 2003) - Big Mountain Resort hosts a family weekend this week with the “Spirit of Winter” Show happening Jan. 25, Chevy Trucks Family Fest on Jan. 25-26, and special deals on junior ski tickets are offered all week beginning Jan. 27 as part of a national promotion.

The second “Spirit of Winter” Show of the season takes place at 7 p.m. on Jan. 25. Spectators are encouraged to gather slopeside in front of Moguls Village Pub for a spectacular, one of a kind show in celebration of winter. The 25-minute show consists of continuous high speed synchronized skiing, radical snowboard stunts, graceful telemark action, comedy, and huge air performed by Big Mountain’s Freestyle ski team.

In addition to the visual exploits, the audience will be treated to various music selections, narration and buried fireworks that will blast skyward as the action unfolds. The show is free and spectators of all ages are welcome to attend.

Chevy Trucks, a major sponsor of ski and snowboard events, will be on hand with village entertainment and activities Jan. 25 – 26 for the first annual Family Fest. The latest trucks from Chevy will be on display at the base of the Glacier Chaser (Chair 1) and a DJ will play music throughout the day. Lipton Tea and Balance Bar will host booths offering free samples and fun activities like a Noodle Toss, Obstacle Course and High Strike Area.

Big Mountain is among over 200 resorts across the United States participating in the 6th annual "Take Your Kids to the Snow Week." As part of the program, Big Mountain offers $17 Junior daily lift tickets (ages 7-18) and $5 off group lessons for juniors between Jan. 27 and Feb. 2. While the focus of the program has traditionally been to introduce girls and young women to skiing, snowboarding and other winter recreation, Big Mountain Resort, as in seasons past, extends the offer to all junior skiers and snowboarders.

"We encourage people across the Valley to bring their family to the slopes during this special week," said Elaine White, Big Mountain Ticket Office Manager. "There has been an increase in participation each season so people are starting to notice and take advantage of this wonderful program."
