Delerue, Nobs Win SBX No. 2
Berchtesgaden, Germany (Saturday, January 25, 2003) - Lack of snow may have tabled the halfpipe competition set for the first World Cup after last week's World Championships, but Saturday’s boardercross event went off as scheduled with Xavier Delerue of France taking the men’s race, while Switzerland’s Olivia Nobs outlasted the women. No American athletes competed.
The win for Delerue was his second in two weeks following an SBX victory at the World Championships and also moved him into the World Cup lead. Nobs was able to secure the victory simply by staying on her feet as all four of her competitors went down in the women’s final.
Francesco Sandrini of Italy finished second for the men just ahead of Canadian Tom Velisek, while Julie Pomagalski of France and Austria’s Doris Krings went 2-3 for the women. The World Cup continues next weekend with parallel slalom and SBX from San Candido, Italy.
