Duals Podium for Dawson in Fernie

Fernie (BC), Canada (Saturday, January 25, 2003) - Toby Dawson (Vail, CO) had the lone podium performance by a U.S. skier Saturday in the only World Cup dual moguls event before the World Championships open in a few days at Utah's Deer Valley as he finished third in the men's side of the draw.

Janne Lahtela of Finland won the men's event, defeating Canadian Stephane Rochon while Dawson edged Japan's Yugo Tsukita for third place. The next American men were Mike Friedberg (Boulder, CO), Jeremy Bloom (Loveland, CO) and David Babic (Washington, VT), all of whom tied for 17th.

Canadian women went 1-2 with Stephanie St. Pierre beating Tami Bradley while Jillian Vogtli (Ellicotville, NY) posted the top U.S. result in eighth place. Emiko Torito (Englewood, CO), Shelly Robertson (Reno, NV) and Olympic moguls medalist Shannon Bahrke, the women's World Cup leader, tied for ninth place.

The World Championships open Wednesday on the Olympic venues at Deer Valley with men's and women's moguls qualifying.
