Up to 1,000 Boy Scouts Will Hit A-Basin for Klonderee 2003
Arapahoe Basin, CO (Sunday, January 26, 2003) - Have fun and learn winter camping techniques at Klondoree 2003 at Arapahoe Basin. The event will help kids get a better understanding of the history of skiing in Colorado while they learn about current techniques and compare them to when the sport began, while focusing on environmental awareness.
Five hundred to 1,000 scouts from all over the Front Range will be judged this weekend on participation events and competitive events on the following criteria: fun, teamwork, communication, participation and scout skills. The following events are planned: bivouac skills, obstacle course, first aid, fire starting, leave no trace awareness award, winter camping and snowshoeing.
Friday, February 21: Check-in, overnight camping in Last Chance parking lot.
Saturday, February 22: - Exhibitors from National Ski Patrol, Prof. Ski Instructors of America, Colorado Avalanche Information Center, Boy Scouts of America, Co Ski Museum, 10th Mountain Division, Volkl, Red Feather snowshoes, Back County Magazine, National Ski Area Association and more.
Reveille by A-Basin Ski Patrol. Opening flag ceremony, races and competitions. Lunch at mid-way barbeque with 10th Mountain Division past members. Camping in Last Chance parking lot.
Sunday, February 22: Reveille by A-Basin Ski Patrol. Prayer service at mid-way. Closing ceremonies followed by event awards/recognition. Camp check-out and clean-up "Leave No Trace."
