Freeman/Swenson 4th in Sprint Relay

Oberhof, Germany (Sunday, January 26, 2003) - U.S. Olympians Kris Freeman (Andover, NH) and Carl Swenson (Boulder, CO) combined Sunday to finish fourth in a World Cup two-man freestyle relay won by Italy. Giorgio DiCenta and Cristian Zorzi combined to win the 10-leg race in 39:35.0, a whisker ahead of Germany's Rene Sommerfeldt and Tobias Angerer, who had the same time. Freeman and Swenson were timed in 40:26.6 with USA-2 – Andrew Johnson (Greensboro, VT) and Justin Wadsworth (Bend, OR) finishing 12th. Norway's Anita Moen and Hilde G. Pedersen were 6.5 seconds ahead of Germans Claudia Kuenzel and Manuela Henkel; no U.S. women raced. The men went five laps each on the 1.6-km course while the women skied three laps apiece.
