Phil and Steve Mahre: Identical in Every Way

Wilmington, NY (Wednesday, January 29, 2003) - In a head-to-head dual Tuesday afternoon on the Whiteface Mountain NASTAR course, Olympians and twin brothers Phil and Steve Mahre, back at Whiteface together for the first time since the 1980 Winter Games, clocked identical times of 23.64 seconds.

The giant slalom courses were set on Lower Valley.

The Mahres, identical twins, were at Whiteface as part of ORDA's Corporate Challenge. They entertained and yukked it up with employees and guests of IBM throughout the day.

After coaching and coaxing 105 Big Blue executives and staffers from 22 nations, the brothers from Washington state, with three Olympic medals between them, put on a racing demonstration that turned back the clock.

Phil captured silver in 1980 and gold four years later, while Steve was the silver medalist in 1984. All three medals came in the slalom. In addition, Steve was the 1982 world giant slalom champion.
