Park City, UT (Thursday, May 8, 2003) - World Cup mono-skiing champion Lacey Heward (LW-11; Boise, ID) is among 19 alpine athletes named to the 2004 U.S. Disabled Ski Team while Candace Cable (LW-11; Truckee, CA), who not only won three gold medals for sit-skiers at the World Championships last winter but captured the World Cup title, heads a group of six disabled cross country racers, Program Director Sandy Metzger said Thursday.

The alpine team includes 13 men and six women; veteran mega-champion Sarah Will (LW-11; Vail, CO), who took off last winter, has retired after 12 seasons with the U.S. team and former World Cup champion Mary Riddell (LW-4; Dove Creek, CO) is taking two years off to start college. The cross country squad has four men and two women, according to Metzger.

Following the traditional post-Paralympics retirements and sabbaticals by veteran athletes, Heward emerged last season. Heward won three races in Europe and was first overall among mono-skiers. This year's team expects to benefit from the return of multi-decorated champion Chris Waddell (LW-10; Park City, UT), who took time off last season but returns for his 13th season with the Ski Team.
