'Perfect' Snow for U.S. Disabled Camp at A-Basin
Arapahoe Basin, CO (Wednesday, May 21, 2003) - Eleven members of the U.S. Alpine Disabled Team all but had A-Basin to themselves for most of a four-day on-snow camp that followed a week of conditioning workouts at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
"Four days were just about perfect," Coach Kevin Jardine reported. "The staff at A-Basin was terrific to work with – they came right out and introduced themselves and made sure we had what we needed. It was great cooperation. We had a caqmp at A-Basin two years ago in May and this one was another great one.
"The snow was perfect and we got a lot done – not running any gates, but just free-skiing and then doing some technique drills. Now, everyone's anxious for the next camp, which will be the mono-ski camp at Mount Hood in two months."
Sixteen athletees were at the Olympic complex, he said, but several had to return home for work or prior commitments. "We tacked the on-snow training onto the end of the conditioning camp and not everyone could make it," Jardine explained.
Jardine, who returned from International Ski Federation committee meetings in France, said the '04 schedule calls for World Cup races in Tignes, France, and Abtenau, Austria, before World Championships in late January in Wildschoenau, Austria. World Cup Finals will be in Sestriere, Italy, after Worlds.
