Killington Closes for the Winter Season

Killington, VT (Tuesday, May 27, 2003) - The Superstar Express Quad Chairlift came to a seasonal halt at 4 p.m. yesterday, and Killington closed for the 2002-2003 winter season. With 291 inches of natural snowfall this season and its first top-to-bottom opening day in history 213 days ago on Oct. 25, 2002, Killington posted the longest ski and snowboard season in eastern North America for the 42nd consecutive year.

After an opening day that was somewhat late by Killington standards, albeit offering top-to-bottom skiing on 8 trails serviced by two lifts, cold temperatures took hold in late January and February, allowing the resort to build enough snowmaking base on its Superstar trail to stay open through Memorial Day. At times during the winter, Superstar boasted base depths of up to 30 feet. Typically, Killington offers skiing and riding through Memorial Day and oftentimes into June. Last season, Killington closed on June 1.
