Telemark Festival, Theme Weeks Fill Remaining January Calendar at Sunday River
Bethel, ME (Tuesday, January 20, 2004) - This weekend, January 24 and 25, Sunday River hosts the Maine Telemark Festival, featuring demos, clinics and competitions. But that's not all remaining on the resort's calendar for January.
Despite the discontinuation this year of the national program sponsored by the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA), Sunday River will resurrect Take Your Daughter to the Snow Week. Starting Monday January 26 through Friday January 30, 2004, adult or child “daughters” ski for half price with the purchase of a full-price adult lift ticket. This offer can not be combined with any other promotion or lodging package, and there's a limit in place of two half-price tickets per full-price adult lift ticket purchased.
Next week, Sunday River is hosting its third theme week of the month, this time dedicated to senior skiers. The special weeklong event is for skiers ages 50 and over only. The senior's week package covers January 26-30 and includes five nights lodging and five days skiing at $239, or $55 for one night of lodging and one day of skiing. The package includes lift tickets and lodging, plus a welcome wine and cheese party, organized group skiing and lunches, happy hours, a tour of Sunday River's "Snowflake Factory" snowmaking facility, an appearance by Maine television personality Bill Green, a comedy night and a Senior Snow Ball with ballroom dancing.
"This week we're skiing on 113 trails," says resort spokesperson Susan Duplessis, "and with the opening of Lost Princess on Oz slated for tomorrow, we'll have opened all of our snowmaking terrain. We will be resurfacing all major trails this week, so we should be in great shape for the upcoming weekend. A foot or two of natural snow at this point would enable us to open the remainder of our terrain, but we have a few glades open even now. We also have five terrain parks open and the halfpipe and minipipe are under construction."
