Ride 'Em Cowboy: 30th Annual Cowboy Downhill Held in Steamboat

Steamboat Springs, CO (Wednesday, January 21, 2004) - Over 70 Professional rodeo cowboys from around the United States, and Canada switched from riding broncs and bulls to skis and snowboards yesterday as they competed in the 30th Annual Bud Light Cowboy Downhill in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

The race began with the dual slalom where cowboys raced their way through a slalom course and over a large jump (which bucked a few right out of their skis). Once through the course, each had to lasso a person, saddle a horse, and cross the finish line, hopefully all in one piece. The finale and most entertaining of the Bud Light 30th Annual Cowboy Downhill competition, was the Stampede. Utilizing a mass start, the Stampede pitted cowboy against cowboy in a chaotic winner takes all race to the bottom of the racecourse.

Danny Millett (Bib #50), a team roper from Greeley, Colorado, won the dual slalom event with a time of 28.48 seconds. Saddle Bronc rider Kyle Daines (Bib #32) of Innisfail, Alberta, Canada, took second place with a time of 32.25. Third was saddle bronc rider Dustin Flundra (Bib #33) of Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada, at 32.54. Michael Sisk (Bib #61) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado took the coveted Stampede Title. Layne McCuslan (Bib #53), a bullrider from Elk City, Oklahoma, took the prestigious title of best crash with an end-over-end tumble.

The 30th Annual Bud Light Cowboy Downhill is always scheduled to coincide with the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in Denver each January. Racers must be entered at the Stock Show and be a member of the ProRodeo Cowboys Association or the Professional Bull Riders to compete in the event.
