Rookie? Stephens 4-for-4 in GS
Wildschoenau, Austria (Tuesday, January 27, 2004) - Disabled World Cup rookie Laurie Stephens (LW-12/1; Wenham, MA) stretched the unbeaten U.S. women mono-skiers' January winning streak to seven race as she took a first-run lead Tuesday and rolled to victory by more than a second in a giant slalom.
In the final race before the Disabled Alpine World Championships get underway in Wildschoenau, Stephens had the lone American podium finish. She's won the women's mono-skier category in all four World Cup giant slaloms this season.
The University of New Hampshire sophomore, who was born with spinal bifida, had an adjusted time of 2:38.00. Stephani Victor (LW-12/2; Park City, UT) finished fourth in 2:44.25. The only other U.S. top-5 came from Csilla Kristof (LW-6/8; Las Vegas), who was fifth in the women's standup class.
