Powder Arrives at Fernie In Time for Powder 8s
Fernie (BC), Canada (Tuesday, January 27, 2004) - Fernie Alpine Resort has received 21 cm of light, fluffy snow overnight, bringing the 24 hour total to 30 cm, 40 cm in the past 48 hours, and 76 cm this week...and it's still coming. Snow is in the forecast for today and tomorrow, so conditions just keep getting better for the Powder 8 Championships slated for January 31st.
Set below the peaks of southeastern British Columbia's Lizard range, teams of two skiers, riders or a combination rider and skier, will compete to perform the perfect 8’s in the powder snow. The teams are judged on synchronization, distance spacing, style & technique, roundness, symmetry and fall line. The winners of the men’s competition will receive a trip to Lake Louise to compete in the National Championship event being held on March 20th. The Women’s Nationals will be vying for a trip to the AOL World Powder 8 Championships at Mike Wiegle’s in Blue River, British Columbia April 10th to 17th.
“The Powder 8 is an awesome event to partake in, or even just to watch. When you combine that with the great snow that is falling and the amazing mountain backdrop, you couldn’t ask for a more spectacular event,” says Matt Mosteller Senior Director for Business Development with Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. "Hurry out and register because spots fill up fast,” added Mosteller.
The location of the event will be announced on the morning of the event, snow conditions permitting.
Early bird registration is CAN$60.00 per team of two adults prior to Thursday, January 29th. After that, late registration of CAN$70.00 per team will be accepted until 9:00am on the day of the event.
