Ohau I Love to Ride a Chairlift

Twizel, New Zealand (Sunday, May 9, 2004) - The latest report from Ohau shows the lift installation is going well.

"There is still plenty to do and we will need some help from the snow gods to have everthing up and running by the 17th of July, opening day," says Mike Neilson, Ohau's owner/operator.

The Doppelmayr double chair was purchased from Rainbow Ski Area, which acquired the lift from Roundhill (when it used to be called Tekapo Ski Area).

In its current configuration the fully reconditioned chairlift will have 102 chairs and operate at a capacity of 792 per hour. The ride will be 7.63 minutes long at a speed of 2 meters/sec. The vertical rise is 345 meters and the length 920 meters. The offload is at 1800 meters of elvation in the center of the field below the ridge. This is the same altitude as the ski area's old T-Bar.
