Bretton Woods Renews New Hampshire Ski Season Record

Bretton Woods, NH (Monday, May 10, 2004) - For the second year in a row, Bretton Woods has broken the record for the longest running ski season in New Hampshire. Skiers and snowboarders anxious to take the first turns of this season were able to do so at Bretton Woods starting on November 13, 2003. On May 8, 2004, 178 days later, two trails provided several die-hard skiers with their final turns of the winter.

“Our goal this year was to be able to transition from skiing to golf with no interruption in the resort’s offerings of popular outdoor recreation,” explains Bretton Woods Director of Operations Chris Ellms.

The record for the longest ski season in New Hampshire was 177 days, achieved by Bretton Woods in 2003. As the season's end approached, some patrons questioned whether Bretton Woods could achieve its goal of 178 days. Visiting on Friday, the resort's 177th day of operation this season, First Tracks!! Online reader "Max" from Québec stated, "We started wondering if that would be their last day of operation. We were told that they would open one more day, mostly to (keep) the passholders happy. Saturday was certainly not really worth it anymore."

Indeed, remaining open one more day was not just to placate season passholders, but also allowed the resort to claim New Hampshire bragging rights once again.

With the conclusion of skiing and riding, plans are already underway for improvements to Bretton Woods Mountain Resort for the 2004/2005 ski season. In addition to fine-tuning some of the newer trails in the Rosebrook Summit area, crews will be busy this summer with more snowmaking installation.

“We’re really increasing our fire power,” says Ellms. “We’ll be adding five miles of new pipe to the system as well.”
