Killington Ski & Snowboard Season Draws to Close This Weekend with Triathlon, Concerts

Killington, VT (Monday, May 9, 2005) - Killington’s Rage Weekend provides one last chance to celebrate winter in Vermont with a twist of summer and the 15th Annual Killington Triathlon, Killington Klimb and the final show of the Budweiser winter concert series May 14-15 at the K-1 Lodge.

The 15th Annual Killington Triathlon kicks off Rage Weekend as competitors trade their ski and snowboard boots for cycling and running shoes. The three-event triathlon features a ski/snowboard run down Superstar, a five-mile mountain bike ride, followed by a 2.5-mile cross-country run, starting at 10:30 a.m.

The event will be followed by the final Budweiser Winter Concert Series show featuring Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven, with special guest Big Fuzz, at 12:30 p.m. on the outdoor stage at the K-1 Lodge.

“This event is geared for everyone from the hardcore athlete to the weekend warrior looking to cut loose and live large on the final weekend of the 2004-05 ski and snowboard season,” said Josh Arneson, events manager for Killington Resort.

This year Rage Weekend has been moved a few weeks earlier as the last day for skiing and riding at Killington will be on Sunday, May 15. In the past, when Killington traditionally stayed open for skiing and snowboarding until late May or even June, the event was traditionally held on the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Sunday the Killington Klimb, a footrace to the top of Killington Peak where competitors choose their own course, will take place at 10 a.m. Starting at the K-1 Lodge and finishing just below the summit of Killington Peak, the fastest times are usually around 20 minutes.

Entry fees for the Killington Triathlon are $35 per individual or team member when registered online. There is a cap of 500 competitors for this event. Online registration at www.killington.com closes May 12, 2005 11:59 p.m. Day of race registration is $40. There is a special $10 competitor lift ticket available for Saturday, which can be purchased online with your registration and picked up on the morning of the event. All competitors participating in the ski/snowboard leg will be required to have a lift ticket or season pass.

Entry fees for the Killington Klimb are $10 and registration is open online at www.killington.com and closes May 13, 11:59 p.m. If you miss online registration you will have to show up for day-of registration. Bib pick-up and day of registration will be held Sunday, May 15th at the K-1 Lodge from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. There is no cap on the number of competitors for this event and day of registration will be $10.

Those looking for lift-served turns in the East aren't limited to Killington. New Hampshire's Bretton Woods still spins one lift serving two trails with an 8- to 48-inch base, and those north of the border may head to the Laurentians north of Montréal, where Mont Saint-Sauveur plans to have its West 70 and Nordique trails open for skiing and riding this weekend.
