Canadian Disabled Alpine Ski Team Sets Podium Goal
Calgary, Canada (Thursday, May 26, 2005) - Alpine Canada Alpin announced today the nomination of 18 athletes and two guides selected to represent the Canadian Disabled Alpine Ski Team entering into the 2005-2006 racing season. Intently focused on clinching eight medals at the 2006 Paralympics in Torino, the 05-06 delegation will also be striving to acquire valuable experience in preparation for the 2010 Games, the first Paralympics ever presented in Canada.
Leslie Clark, Head Coach for the Canadian Disabled Alpine Ski Team, said Alpine Canada Alpin has a strategic goal to improve upon the nine World Cup podium results and the 28 top 10 results accomplished this past season.
"Our program is highly competitive at the World Cup stage. But ultimately, the measure of our success will be tested at the Paralympics," said Clark. "By striving to increase the human, technical, and financial resources made available to our athletes, we will be in an optimal position to strengthen our program in the spirit of the increasingly competitive Paralympics."
Clark said the Canadian Disabled Alpine Ski Team's 11 senior and seven development athletes will be headed by last season's World Cup super G overall champion, blind skier Chris Williamson, as well as veterans Lauren Woolstencroft and Daniel Wesley who have recovered from injuries.
