Hundreds of Santas to Hit the Ski Slopes of Sunday River
Bethel, ME (Sunday, November 20, 2005) - Sunday River ski resort’s popular Santa Sunday is expected to bring hundreds of skiing and riding Santas to the slopes Dec. 4. The 6th annual event is a fundraiser for the Bethel (Maine) Rotary Club and is part of Santa Weekend at the resort.
Santa Sunday participants don a full Santa costume and donate a minimum of $10, which goes toward the Bethel Rotary Club’s annual Christmas drive to purchase gifts for children in need. In return, they receive free skiing and riding for that day and two additional lift tickets that are valid until Dec. 16.
In past Santa Sunday events, more than 200 people have registered for the event. Santas gather at South Ridge at 11 a.m. for photos. Pre-registration is required for this event, and participants must adhere to event rules in order to participate, including the costume requirements. To register, go to www.sundayriver.com.
The annual Santa Ball will be held that night at the White Cap Lodge. The James Montgomery Blues Band will perform as part of the Bud Light Concert Series. James Montgomery has played with artists such as Gregg Allman, Kid Rock, B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Bonnie Raitt and many more. Those in Santa costume receive free admission. Guests not wishing to don a Santa on Saturday evening suit can reserve $5 advance tickets by calling (800) 543-2SKI. The show is 21+ with positive ID required.
