Junkyard Jam to Close Ski and Snowboard Season at Snowmass

Snowmass, CO (Monday, April 10, 2006) - The premiere of the Junkyard Jam will close out the ski and snowboard season on Easter Sunday, April 16 on Snowmass. A skateboard-style terrain park will be set up on the skier’s right of the halfpipe, directly under the Village Express lift above the Spider Sabich picnic area. A barbecue and beer garden will round out the festivities. Foot passengers can access the events via the Burlingame chair.

Local and regional skiers and snowboarders are welcome to register to compete on what promises to be a very unique course using “junk” as jib features. The course will contain items such as cleaned oil drums, a lift tower, and a gondola cabin among other items. About 40 athletes will jib the junkyard competing for top honors and prize money.

“I can’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon than listening to Djate on Snowmass, checking out the Jam and celebrating what has been the most spectacular season in memory – from action-packed events to unbelievable skiing and riding – what a blast,” said John Rigney, Aspen Skiing Company Managing director of event marketing.

The closing day activities will also include the final Bud Light Hi-Fi concert of the season featuring Djate & the Rockers. The concert will take place near the Spider Sabich picnic area and is scheduled to start at 1:15 p.m.

Originally from the West Indian Island of Dominica, Djaté is best known for his years as lead guitarist for the reggae band Culture. He played in local bands from New York to Houston and Chicago to Florida and opened shows for Third World, The Wailers, Damian Marley, Black Uhuru, Jimmy Cliff & Luky Dube to name a few. Based in Boulder, Colo., for the last four years, the band has been playing many of the Rockies' hot spots.

Aspen Mountain will also close for the season on Easter Sunday, April 16.
