The Remarkables Kicks Off Queenstown Ski Season

Queenstown, New Zealand (Tuesday, June 27, 2006) - The first skiers and riders of the 2006 ski and snowboard season at The Remarkables today were greeted with a glass of Lindauer bubbly to celebrate the ski area's first day of the season. Lifts started turning with plenty of snow top to bottom, as mountain staff welcomed local and international visitors.

A brand new snowmaking system pumping snow in the weeks leading up to opening combined with several early season snowfalls. The off-piste slopes from Sugar Bowl chair were soon sporting the telltale tracks of skiers and riders heading off the trails in search of powder-filled gullies.

Park life got underway for the winter as freestylers performed tricks on a series of rails and boxes set up in the Up & Go Terrain Park and the Fruju Beginner Park.

Live music on the deck added to the friendly, fun atmosphere and incredibly clear skies offered unparalleled views across the mountains.
