Fire Destroys Base Lodge at New York Ski Area

Cherry Creek, NY – An overnight blaze has destroyed a base lodge at Cockaigne ski area in western New York State.nThe fire, first noticed by a snowplow driver around 10:30 p.m. Monday night, leveled the resort’s Austrian World’s Fair Pavilion, which was installed at the ski area in 1966 after its relocation from the 1964 New York World’s Fair. The structure was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews first arrived on the scene. The building’s three giant arches served as a landmark for the structure, which served as the main base lodge at the resort.

No one was present in the building when the fire broke out, and no injuries have been reported. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
