“We are very excited that Tom Kelly has agreed to bring his considerable leadership skills and experience in the world of skiing to the service of the national hall of fame this way,” said Weichsel. “He has served on our Board since 1998 and during that time has been one of the Board’s mainstays providing assistance in several areas, especially in improving our nomination and selection process for honored membership so that it is more transparent and efficient.”

Kelly’s career in skiing goes back to 1977 when he served as the Director of Public Relations for the Telemark Lodge in Cable, Wisc. While there he was involved in the organization of many international skiing events, the best known being the annual American Birkebeiner Nordic skiing race. From 1980 to 1987 he was the owner of Worldwide Nordic USA, a company that organized adventure travel tours in cross-country skiing, alpine skiing and cycling. In 1986 he was hired as the Assistant Nordic Director for the USSA and two years later was appointed the Vice President of Communications. For nearly 20 years, beginning in 1983 Kelly was one of the founding directors of the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival, which is one of America’s largest mountain bike races held between Hayward and Cable, Wisc., each year.

Weichsel, the owner of ski expo promoter BEWI Sports Productions, has served as the Hall’s Chairman since 2009. During that time he has enhanced the Hall of Fame’s sustainability through the organization of successful fundraising induction events at ski resorts across the country.
