Brewfest to Go On at Mt. Hood Meadows, Snow or No

Mt. Hood, OR – It will be pouring at Mt. Hood Meadows this Saturday, and for once this winter it won’t be rain.

The Winter Brewfest will be presented at Meadows, regardless of whether any lifts are running. With a favorable forecast for both snowmaking and accumulation this week, resort officials are hopeful that at least one lift will be operating Saturday.

There will be 30 or more flavors to sample at the Pray 4 Snow Winter Brewfest from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.  The event will be presented at Vertical Cocina in the North Lodge and participating breweries and wineries include: Widmer, Full Sail, Double Mountain, Everybody’s Brewing, Laurelwood, Hopworks, Backwoods, HR Ciderworks, and Naked Winery. Admission is $14 and includes entrance to the Brew Fest, entertainment, glass keepsake logo mug and four drink coupons. Additional drink coupons may be purchased for $1 each. Guests must be 21 with current valid ID in order to enter.

Keegan Smith and The Fam will play live from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. This Portland based band is both fun and energetic. Their sound spectrum ranges from blues to neo-soul, hip-hop to acoustic roots, and reggae to funk.

Warmer than usual weather has stymied lift operations at Meadows this early season, brought on by a Pineapple Express weather pattern. In retaliation, Meadows will present a “Pineapple Toss”, a fundraising event for the Northwest Avalanche Center. Resort spokesman Dave Tragethon says, “We want to throw this Pineapple Express system as far away from Mt. Hood as possible, so we’ve created some catapults to launch pineapples Saturday. We’ll have some fun prizes for those willing to put $10 down to launch a pineapple. The farther we can toss those pineapples the happier we will be.”

Meadows culinary services will be offering up some pineapple specialties for those who want to consume the flavorful fruit in a more traditional method.

Even the announcement of the pineapple toss seems to be affecting this week’s weather. Colder temperatures are allowing the resort to make snow and the forecast is showing accumulation several days this week. The resort picked up three inches of new snow overnight. Resort officials are committed to opening lifts and terrain as soon as snow allows.
