Soelden Training Ends Season for Second Skier

Pitztal, Austria – On the same day that a severe knee injury ended Austrian racer Anna Fenninger’s season, another crash has closed the door on the World Cup winter for a second racer even before it began.

Canadian Dustin Cook, 26, crashed on Wednesday in the Austrian resort of Pitztal during training for the World Cup season opening giant slalom races set for this weekend in Soelden. Sustaining a right knee injury as did Fenninger, Cook is set to undergo surgery and will not return for the rest of the season, according to the Canadian ski federation Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA).

“During a giant slalom training run, Cook crashed causing ligament damage to his right knee,” the ACA has confirmed. Few further details were immediately available.

Cook, a speed events specialist from Lac-Sainte-Marie, Québec, is the reigning World Championship silver medalist in super G.
