Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain Band Together to Create New Holiday Festivities

Lake Placid, NY – With the holidays approaching and snowfall scarce, Lake Placid and nearby Whiteface Mountain Ski Center are banding together to offer holiday seekers a new mix of on-mountain and downtown Lake Placid entertainment options throughout the holiday season.

Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington is offering a BOGO deal for every full-price lift ticket purchase from December 21 through January 2, a time of year when deals on lift tickets are virtually unheard of. Purchase a full day or multi-day lift ticket at the Whiteface ticket window, online at Whiteface.com, through a lodging property, or with a Frequent Skier Card, and receive a one-day non-holiday lift ticket voucher valid from January 4, 2016 through the end of the season.

“Whether it is a thrilling bobsled ride, skating outdoors on the famed Olympic Skating Oval, enjoying indoor skating in the 1932 Arena, or attending a glorious ice show with world-renowned performers, Lake Placid continues to provide amazing activities that repeatedly earn us the title of #1 for off-slope activities,” stated New York State Olympic Regional development Authority (ORDA) President and CEO Ted Blazer.

In spite of prevailing weather conditions, Lake Placid is attempting to prove that it doesn’t need to snow for visitors to enjoy the attractions, amenities and family-friendly entertainment options available throughout the Adirondack alpine village.

“In addition to events and attractions, our alpine village is pedestrian-friendly and walkable, with shopping and dining opportunities from books to Dale of Norway sweaters and brewpubs to fine dining,” said James McKenna, president of the Lake Placid-based Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism. “Lake Placid is uniquely positioned to provide an exceptional, weatherproof experience any time of year.”

Over the holidays, visitors will find daily entertainment and interactive family fun downtown and at Mid’s Park on Main Street. Festivities located downtown will include an air bag jump, music, bonfires, an obstacle course and interactive family games. Mid’s Park will feature family fun from 3-5 p.m. daily, including live music, ice carving demonstrations, hot chocolate, relay races and more.

The Olympic Center and adjacent Conference Center at Lake Placid will host a variety of activities and events. Tickets are still available for the Ekaterina Gordeeva “From the Heart” Tribute Ice Show on Wednesday, Dec. 30. Indoor skating for the public will be available several times daily, and special evening sessions will be available for curling in the 1932 Rink. Plus, an increased schedule of guided, informative Olympic Center tours are on tap, and Lake Placid’s robust winter sports history is on display at the Olympic Museum.

Wellness opportunities abound all week. Several locations throughout the community offer yoga classes and a full schedule of Zumba, turbo kick and PiYo will be held MondayThursday and Saturday morning at the Conference Center at Lake Placid.
