Skiing Accident Takes Life at Hunter Mountain

Hunter, NY – New York State Police at Catskill and the Hunter Police Department are investigating the death of Edwin Wood, 58 of Warwick, N.Y. at Hunter Mountain Ski Center on Wednesday morning.

Wood, who police say was an expert skier, was skiing on the Annapurna trail, a double black diamond (expert) trail on Hunter’s West side.  Wood lost control and slid approximately 200 feet before leaving the trail and striking several trees.

Wood was extricated by the Hunter Mountain Ski Patrol and then treated by Greene County Paramedics and Hunter area ambulance personnel before being pronounced deceased.

No further details were available at press time. State Police are currently treating the matter as an accidental fall and do not suspect any foul play.  An autopsy is scheduled for a later date.
